If there's one thing that new authors look forward to with equal
amounts of exhilaration, anticipation, trepidation and just plain
wonder-what-this-will-be-like curiosity, it's these two little words:
BOOK TOUR.
Yep, Michelle and I were bouncing off the walls with excitement when we
got our tour schedule this week. The China Dolls are going on a
five-city book tour: Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and
Portland. And that's not even including our New York City book
signings. Here's the schedule so far:
February 12 - Corner Bookstore, NYC 6pm
February 20 - Barnes & Noble Astor Place, NYC 7pm
February 22 - Chicago
February 23 - Vromans, L.A., 7pm
February 24 - Book Soup, L.A., 5pm
February 27 - Stacy's, San Fran, 12pm
- Book Passage, San Fran, 7pm
February 28 - Seattle
March 1 - Portland

Whew! I'm getting giddy just thinking about this! Seriously, though,
writers don't really perform the way actors and musicians do, so going
on a book tour is the closest thing to being a rock star for us.
Hey, the Stones are going on tour? Well, guess what - so are we!
Okay, okay, I'll have to ask you to excuse me - I'm coming back down to
earth now. I'm sure there will be times when Michelle and I will
be frazzled, exhausted, utterly stressed out...nah, it's still pretty
cool.
Speaking of performing, Michelle and I were invited by our friend Kat
to the Starving Artist After Party, which is a benefit for emerging NYC
artists. The party was at Crash Mansion, which, yes, sounds like
something out of a Halloween B-movie, but is actually a cool new lounge
on Bowery. It was definitely a fun time and we got to hang out
with our friends Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus (for anyone who's
been living under a rock, they're the authors of the famous and amazing
Nanny Diaries) and watch Nicola introduce the recipient of the
evening's award. We also got treated to a rock band performance -
as well as some sort of burleque strip show. I was sipping my beer and
chatting away, when I happened to glance at the stage and noticed five
women dancing...and stripping down to their pasties. Yes, silver,
dangly, pasties. To say it was interesting would be putting it
mildly. I guess the organizers really want to give everyone their
money's worth.
Come to think of it, maybe that should be our mantra on our book
tour. We may not be stripping down to our skivvies (at least not
literally), but we're going to do our best to give our readers their
money's worth. Showtime!
