Aces and Faults

One of the best things about the first week of September in New York is
the U.S. Open tennis tournament. Ever since I was a kid, I always
looked forward to the event. As an avid tennis fan, there was nothing
better than watching live action of the top pros in the
world exchanging hard and heavy groundstrokes from the baseline. For
years, I was also inspired by all the journalists who covered the
matches. I thought 'They get paid to watch tennis and interview dreamy players
like Stefan Edberg (one of my favorite players of all time). What job
is better than that?'. The good news: I got to be one of "those" journalists. The bad news: There ARE better
jobs than that.
Checking out the two most expensive restaurants inside Arthur Ashe
Stadium called "Aces" and "Champions" was one of my assignments of the
week. Both these eateries cost a pretty penny to dine in because
apparently, you either have to be a tournament subscriber or must pay a fee
of $260 to purchase a pass just to get inside the restaurant. Yes, that's
right. There is a $260 cover charge to eating at a restaurant inside
Flushing Meadows Park. The ambiance to these two "exclusive hot spots" were
pretty amazing though. "Aces" had a modern, chic, bright look. It
featured fresh seafood and sushi. "Champions" was more of a meat
lover's place as trays of porterhouse steaks were seen everywhere. The
executive chef was nice enough to have me try some of their specialty
sushi rolls like the "Centre Court" roll. They were good but I'm not sure it's worth all the hassle.
Speaking of aces, Blossom and I felt like a pair of aces this week as
we learned about our solidified book tour. In February, we're scheduled
to do a five city book tour which will include traveling to Seattle,
Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago. We're psyched and
look forward to it!
Of course, we will keep you posted on when the book signings will be!
Anyhow, I'll be back later in the week. It's college football's kickoff weekend so I've got to go catch up on my scores.
Game, set, match.
