Like Broccoli, It's Good For You

I hate exercise. I really, really do. Unlike Michelle (who's a
born jock), I'm a born Leo, and that means that I like nothing more
than to lie around and do nothing more demanding than turning the page
of a good book. That said - I'm not twenty-two anymore, which is
why I decided that my goal for this year was to actually start
exercising. How's that going? Well, it hasn't been easy, and I can't
say it's been fun, but after spending the past couple months on my
hard-core (for me anyway) exercise routine, I've discovered that...it's
actually not so bad. Don't get me wrong - I'll never become a gym
rat, but I've also discovered that the more I keep trying, the easier
it gets.
So what does this have to do with writing? Maybe not that much, but how
about this - the more you write, the easier it gets. A lot of
people ask me how to deal with writer's block, and honestly, I think
there's only one way to deal with it: keep writing. Even if you
think what you're writing is crap, just keep doing it. The worst
thing you can do is to convince yourself that if the stuff coming out
of you isn't "War and Peace", there's no point in putting pen to
paper. Believe me, I know how that goes - I once went through a
period of writer's block that lasted five whole years. Thankfully, I
got back on the writing horse, but that's only because I decided that
no matter how uninspired I felt, I just had to keep writing.
So my advice for the day? Keep truckin'.
